A.Mead

For Mead, who grew up in southwest Michigan, the relationship between vast bodies of water and the seasonal changes is integral to his view of the world. Hybrid Interface is a series of paintings, prints, books and paper sculptures. The interconnected, waving-like netted line forms in some works are derived from photographs of water, such as the Great Lakes, and financial market charts. While others are direct binary language and disassembled texts. These are transformed and interlinked, referencing disparate but connected eco-systems, one ecological and one economic. Often color variations are derived from documentation of weather patterns, the sky from dawn to twilight, and advertising. Through a systematic, mechanical, and hand-produced process of layering and color variation, each artwork becomes a unique piece related to complex systems.
